FAQ

what is documentary style photography, and how does it differ from lifestyle?

while both styles reject stiff studio setups, they approach a session differently. standard lifestyle photography relies on a level of staging; the photographer sets the scene, gently directs where you should stand, and guides the action to create a picture-perfect moment. pure documentary photography sits on the opposite end of the spectrum - it is completely hands-off. the photographer acts purely as a silent observer, capturing an unfiltered, unmanipulated record of reality.

my work sits heavily in the documentary camp, balanced with just a touch of lifestyle curation. in practice, this means i won't be directing your movements, orchestrating scenarios, or telling you how to act. instead, i keep an eye on the physical space - moving a distracting cup or vase out of the frame so the background looks neat while the moment stays entirely unposed.

by blending these two approaches, you get the best of both worlds: images that are honest, but framed in a way that feels intentional, clean, and visually balanced. it is a style that prioritises real life over forced perfection, resulting in timeless photos that look and feel like you.

what if people are awkward in front of the camera?

this is a common concern and is exactly why i work the way i do. most awkwardness comes from the pressure of forced posing - standing still, staring at a lens, and trying to hold a perfect smile.

because my style is unposed and documentary-led, that pressure is entirely removed. you won't be expected to perform or look directly at the camera. instead, you carry on with whatever you're doing - whether that's working in your space, interacting with your team, or hanging out with your family and friends. by focusing on your natural routine, you forget the camera is even there.

how should i prepare my space and what should i wear?

because my style is rooted in capturing real life, you don't need a pinterest-perfect setting or wardrobe. the goal is for the photos to look and feel like you, so i encourage you to wear whatever you normally feel most comfortable and confident in.

the same rule applies to your space, whether it's a home, a studio, or an office. you don't need to deep-clean or hide away the reality of how you live or work. just ensure the space is tidy enough that you feel comfortable moving around in it.

where are the sessions held?

i shoot on-location, meaning i come direct to you - whether that is your home, office, studio, or a meaningful outdoor space. i primarily service sydney and the eastern suburbs, but i am open to discussing travel for the right project.

What days do you shoot, and How far in advance should I book?

I shoot exclusively on weekdays. To secure a specific date, it is best to reach out 2-4 weeks ahead of time so we have plenty of time to plan the project.

What happens if we don't use a full add-on hour?

add-on hours are billed in full blocks to secure that dedicated time on my calendar, regardless of whether the entire hour is used.
